A 24‐week prospective walking and running intervention in 24 female IBS patients showed an increased in anti‐inflammatory and antioxidant blood parameter activity; superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase and catalase, in addition to reducing pro‐inflammatory cytokines and peroxidative biomarkers (1β, IL‐6, IL‐8 and TNF‐α) when compared to 27 female non‐exercise IBS controls who maintained usual activity [22]. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and irritable bowel syndrome.
