In line with CAP proteins from other pathogenic fungi and oomycetes (Darwiche et al. 2017; Jiang et al. 2023), Ds69335 is also highly upregulated at the early infection stage of pine by D. septosporum, which could suggest this protein, and perhaps its homologues Cm8840 and Pp7927, might act as biotrophic effectors that suppress host defence responses by detoxification of hydrophobic compounds.
