Although the inhibition of PARP-1 activity presents a promising strategy for mitigating cell death in Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), ischemic stroke, epilepsy, and other neurological disorders, several studies have indicated that targeted PARP-1 therapies in animal models of the nervous system may be associated with significant side effects that warrant careful consideration.
