Therefore, we chose pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-2, TNF-α and IFN-γ) which act as key actors in the regulation of infections with statistical significance (p < 0.001) and divided the expression by IL-10 which was the key anti-inflammatory cytokine identified in the study group (p < 0.05) to calculate a pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokine expression ratio (PAER).
