Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is a distinct acute myeloid leukemia (AML) subtype characterized by balanced reciprocal translocation t (15; 17) involving the promyelocytic leukemia (PML) gene on chromosome 15 and the retinoic acid receptor alpha (RARA) gene on chromosome 17 (De Braekeleer et al., 2014). Here, RARA is linked to acute promyelocytic leukemia.
