Approximately 10% of these adenomas evolve into adenocarcinomas over a decade, influenced by genetic pathways such as the adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) pathway, hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC) pathway, and pathways associated with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), like ulcerative colitis [5,6]. Here, APC is linked to hereditary nonpolyposis colon cancer.
