A major advancement in the therapeutic landscape for IBD occurred with the introduction of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) designed to inhibit the tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) inflammatory pathway (e.g., infliximab (IFX), adalimumab (ADL), golimumab (GOL), and certolizumab pegol (CLZ)) in moderate and severe forms of IBD, in both induction and maintenance [6].
