The SLC16 gene family consists of 14 members, also known as the monocarboxylic acid transporter (MCT) family, which are involved in a wide range of metabolic pathways, energy metabolism, gluconeogenesis, T lymphocyte activation, intestinal metabolism, spermatogenesis, pancreatic β cell dysfunction, thyroid hormone metabolism and drug transport in the brain, skeletal muscle, heart, and tumor cells [25]. This evidence concerns the gene TG and neoplasm.
