We have shown that the administration of Porphyromonas gingivalis lipopolysaccharide (LPS), which is one of the pathogens of periodontal disease under the buccal mucosa, induces the promotion of diabetes with the excessive expression of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) in the proximal tubules [5]. The gene discussed is SLC5A2; the disease is periodontal disorder.
