The pathologically altered expression of SUMOylation components is, in some cases, already detectable at the mRNA level; a characteristic example of this type of dysregulation is the induced expression of SENP6 in hepatocellular carcinoma caused by the hypomethylation of SENP6 domains, which is highly correlated with disease progression and worse prognosis [53,54]. Here, SENP6 is linked to hepatocellular carcinoma.
