The frequent presence of a hypoxic microenvironment in malignancies, including pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, is tightly linked to the overexpression of hypoxia-inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1α), a key transcriptional factor in cancer cells able to regulate the expression of many genes in the organism when stabilized by hypoxia [38]. Here, HIF1A is linked to pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.
