In an examination of the role of MKP-2 in diabetes development in multiple-low-dose streptozotocin (STZ) mouse models using male and female chow-fed MKP-2 KO and MKP-2 WT mice aged 8–12 weeks, the body weight of female MKP-2 KO was significantly reduced during the course of STZ injections (STZ-treated) (Figure 1A). The gene discussed is DUSP4; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
