This pattern may be explained by the different distribution of breast cancer subtypes in BRCA1 and BRCA2 carriers.30 Notably, these outcomes should be interpreted in the context of the systemic therapy received by the patients (of whom 91.2% received chemotherapy, with modern anthracycline- and taxane-based regimens in 70% of the cases and use of ovarian function suppression in 62.1% of carriers with hormone receptor–positive disease). This evidence concerns the gene BRCA2 and breast cancer.
