In a previously established fly model of organ wasting/cancer cachexia, it was demonstrated that adult gut tumors, induced by overexpression of an activated form of Yorkie (Yki)(referred to as Yki tumors), secrete several factors, including ImpL2 (Ecdysone-inducible gene L2), PDGF- and Pvf1 (VEGF-related factor 1), and upd3 (unpaired 3), which leads to many cachexia-like phenotypes such as muscle wasting (Kwon et al. 2015; Song et al. 2019; Ding et al. 2021). Here, YAP1 is linked to cancer.
