It has been observed that in the striatum of PD rat models treated with 6-hydroxydopamine and rDAT-HEK cell models exposed to 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium iodide, non-glycosylated DAT accumulates in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus, whereas glycosylated DAT is reduced in these organelles and on the plasma membrane. This evidence concerns the gene SLC6A3 and Parkinson disease.
