The available data suggest that the MAIT cell response to viral infections is predominantly orchestrated by innate cytokines produced by cells responding to the virus, with minimal to no direct involvement of MR1; moreover, the effector functions induced by these cytokines are relatively limited, characterised by the upregulation of CD69, granzyme B and IFN‐γ [35].
