Studies have shown that alcohol-induced hepatic steatosis is accompanied by upregulation of lipid droplet-stabilizing proteins, adipose differentiation-related proteins (ADRP), as well as genes related to fatty acid synthesis, fatty acid synthase (FASN), and acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACACA), exacerbating the condition (Levin et al., 2012). This evidence concerns the gene PLIN2 and fatty liver disease.
