Pancreatitis is the most feared ADE associated with the use of GLP-1 RAs, with increased odds of pancreatitis for GLP-1 RA users compared with other classes of glucose-lowering agents.3,4 While mild gastrointestinal (GI) side effects like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort are reported and tend to improve over time,5 there is also potential for other severe ADEs, such as gastroparesis and GI obstruction, which often require hospitalization, particularly in the context of surgical interventions.6 This evidence concerns the gene GLP1R and acute disseminated encephalomyelitis.
