In addition, our studies are the first to discover that LMP1-mediated inhibition of PERK activity, in conjunction with LMP1 inhibition of GCN2 activity, decreases both epithelial cell differentiation and lytic EBV reactivation in EBV-infected epithelial cells and thus may play an early role in promoting the development of EBV-induced NPC tumors. The gene discussed is EIF2AK4; the disease is nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
