SCN1B and epilepsy: This hyperexcitability state likely explains why SCN1b null mice have severe seizures (Chen et al., 2004; Brackenbury et al., 2013) and why mutations in SCN1B are linked to epilepsy (Wallace et al., 1998; Wallace et al., 2002; Scheffer et al., 2007), cardiac arrythmia (Lopez-Santiago et al., 2007), and pain (Lopez-Santiago et al., 2011; Calhoun and Isom, 2014).
