For several cell types, TIMP-1 has been reported to activate cell growth and proliferation, such as for keratinocytes, chondrocytes, epithelial cells, breast carcinoma cells, and fibroblasts [37,38,39]; however, it is not suitable for human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSCs), where TIMP-1, in contrast, exhibited a negative regulatory role for the cell proliferation [40]. The gene discussed is TIMP1; the disease is breast carcinoma.
