In breast cancer cell lines, SAMe treatment modulates the expression of miRNA-34a, miRNA-34c and miRNA-486-5p leading to caspase-dependent apoptosis and autophagy [251], but is also able to epigenetically regulate uPA and MMP-2 genes by hypermethylation of CpG promoter sequences inhibiting cellular invasion and growth [147,252,253]. This evidence concerns the gene PLAU and breast carcinoma.
