OXCT1 and neoplasm: Taken together, 3OHB-related inhibition of class I histone deacetylases (HDACs) may induce the upregulation of tumor-promoting genes through the epigenetic modification of chromatin [28,34], and metabolic adaptations of cancer cells may facilitate the use of 3OHB as an alternative energy source through the activation of OXCT1 expression [28,29].
