Fumagalli et al. attributed the high incidence rates of VAP during COVID-19 to the severity of the illness itself and its associated treatments (e.g., deep sedation, prolonged mechanical ventilation, corticosteroid use, and anti-IL-6 treatments), as well as to decreased nurse-to-patient ratios and the reduced compliance with preventive measures [21]. Here, IL6 is linked to ventilator-associated pneumonia.
