Since the BEAT-ROP (Bevacizumab Eliminates the Angiogenic Threat of Retinopathy of Prematurity) study, intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) injections have been used more extensively in the treatment of ROP, as they not only directly prohibit VEGF, an agent that influences retinal vascular angiogenesis and proliferation, but also facilitate normal retinal vasculogenesis [3,4]. The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is retinopathy of prematurity.
