LACTB and cancer: In various cancers, including gastric, colorectal, lung, glioma, and ovarian cancers, abnormal expression of LACTB leads to downregulation of the epithelial marker E-cadherin at mRNA and protein levels, while concurrently upregulating mesenchymal markers such as N-cadherin, vimentin, snail, slug, and matrix metalloproteinases MMP2 and MMP9 [11,16,20,25,31,39].
