A distinct immune response is noted between COVID-19 and MIS-C, characterized by a persistent elevation in pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-2, IL-6, IFN-α, IL-10, IL-17, granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), and high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) among MIS-C patients (6–12). The gene discussed is IL6; the disease is COVID-19–associated multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children.
