CXCR3 and cryptococcosis: We hypothesize that among persons with HIV-related cryptococcal infection, CXCR3+ T cells are depleted leading to impaired CSF effector white blood cell recruitment, lower intrathecal cytokine and chemokine production, uncontrolled intracellular fungal replication, serious debilitating fungal meningitis, and ensuing death, in the absence of effective ART and antifungal therapy.
