Chen et al. found that endogenous ZEB1, which directly activated the transcription of the CD47 gene in hypoxia-induced cervical squamous carcinoma cells, was characteristically enriched in exosomes released from cervical squamous carcinoma cells under hypoxic conditions and transferred into macrophages, where it retained transcriptional activity and reprogrammed SIRPα+ TAMs (Tumor associated macrophages) polarization via activation of the STAT3 signaling pathway both in vitro and in vivo. The gene discussed is CD47; the disease is neoplasm.
