Preclinical indications suggest that lactoferrin has neuroprotective effects in the developing brain by alleviating neuronal injury, improving cerebral connectivity, stimulating the production of neurotrophic factors, and diminishing inflammation in models of perinatal inflammatory stimulation, intrauterine growth restriction, and neonatal hypoxic-ischemia (Schirmbeck et al. 2022). This evidence concerns the gene LTF and fetal growth restriction.
