Chemotherapy, radiotherapy, radiofrequency ablation, hepatectomy, and transplantation are the management plans of HCC.4 However, the survival rate is low, suggesting the need for improved therapy.5 Chemotherapeutic agents used include sorafenib (MAP-kinase inhibitor), doxorubicin, 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), and cisplatin.6 Being a multikinase inhibitor sorafenib, acts on vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) receptors, and prolongs survival so this drug is considered as a new reference standard for advanced HCC. The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is hepatocellular carcinoma.
