Thapsigargin, an inhibitor of the sarcoplasmic/ER calcium ATPase (SERCA), induced Hpa2 gene expression in various malignant and non-malignant cell lines including pancreatic adenocarcinoma cell lines (Panc-01, Panc-02, AsPC1, CFPAC, Capan-1), HT1080 and HOS sarcoma cells, HeLa cervical cancer cells, HEK293T cells, and primary murine embryonic fibroblasts [18,36], suggesting a cell-type-independent mechanism regulating Hpa2 expression on a transcriptional level. The gene discussed is HPSE2; the disease is cervical carcinoma.
