Even more striking, in an MPTP (1‐methyl‐4‐phenyl‐1,2,3,6‐tetrahydropyridine) mouse model of PD, TMEM175 knockout mice showed milder motor impairment and dopaminergic neuron loss compared to the wild type, indicating that loss of TMEM175 exerted a neuroprotective effect, which is inconsistent with the results from previous studies (Jinn et al. 2017; Wie et al. 2021). This evidence concerns the gene TMEM175 and Parkinson disease.
