To find the most promising signatures for clinical use, we identified signatures that fulfill three criteria: (1) NAT should have a lower hypoxia score than tumor samples (criterion 1), (2) effective hypoxia signatures should be significantly different from random gene signatures of the same length when comparing NAT and tumor tissues (criterion 2), and (3) efficacious hypoxia signatures should confer prognostic information (criterion 3). This evidence concerns the gene BRD2 and neoplasm.
