In the original cohort, significant differences were observed between the DEX and non-DEX groups regarding age, race, DBP, body weight, comorbidities (diabetes, hypertension, obesity), laboratory parameters (hemoglobin [Hb], BUN, serum creatinine), SOFA score, and treatments (propofol, fentanyl, midazolam, IMV, continuous renal replacement therapy [CRRT], vasopressin, aldosterone receptor blockers, beta-blockers, fibrates, and statins) (P < 0.05). The gene discussed is NR3C2; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
