VIM is a disease-associated astrocyte gene identified in one AD mouse model (Habib et al., 2020), it has been reported that infecting mouse brain with EV71-induced VIM gene-mediated NLRP3 inflammasome activation, leads to the release of IL-1β and caspase-1, which may be one of the causes of inflammation and neuronal injury in the CNS (Xiao et al., 2018). The gene discussed is CASP1; the disease is Alzheimer disease.
