Galectin-3 (Gal-3), a lectin family protein, is also linked to the fibrotic processes in cardiovascular diseases and is elevated in diabetic patients with mildly decreased EF and reduced global longitudinal strain (GLS), which was an early evidence of LV dysfunction for DCM, Figure 1 and Table 1 (44, 67, 68). Here, LGALS3 is linked to familial dilated cardiomyopathy.
