Indeed, Simon Leedham et al. systematically analyze colorectal CSCs with various genotypes and niche, and reveal that there are two types of stem cells in intestinal cancer: Lgr5+ stem cells, induced by WNT/β-catenin activation such as APC mutation, and Lgr5− regenerative stem cells, which do not exist in the normal intestine but emerges during tumorigenesis. The gene discussed is LGR5; the disease is intestinal cancer.
