BDNF and dementia: Participation in regular exercise and physical activity may improve cardiovascular fitness, increase blood flow to the brain [6], support neurogenesis, synaptogenesis, and neuroplasticity through induction of neuron to produce Brain-derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) [7,8], reduce neuronal loss, as well as positively impacts the brain aging process and is associated with greater brain volume in areas vulnerable to dementia [9], such as the hippocampus, temporal [10], and frontal regions [5,11,12].
