In health, FATP2 and FATP5 are the predominant FATPs in the human liver, with CD36 being expressed in much lower levels (Miquilena‐Colina et al., 2011), whereas liver CD36 protein expression is upregulated in patients with MASLD compared with control subjects (Greco et al., 2008; Miquilena‐Colina et al., 2011). Here, CD36 is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
