Some phenolic compounds in the aril of P. dulce have been observed to have anticancer effects; for example, epigallocatechin 3-gallate (EGCG) has been shown to cause apoptotic cell death with the release of cytochrome c in CRC cells, in addition to inhibiting KRAS-induced cell proliferation in epithelial cells and blocking the G1 phase [15]. This evidence concerns the gene KRAS and colorectal carcinoma.
