The reaction is triggered by IgE binding to α-Gal present in hematophagous arthropods, animal-based nutrients, chimeric monoclonal anti-EGFR IgG1 used for carcinoma treatment (i.e., cetuximab), and pharmaceuticals/medical devices containing animal-based products (e.g., anti-venoms and gelatin-containing vaccines) [2,22].
