It is important to note that carriers of at least one GSTO1*A variant allele presented an up to three times higher risk of developing gastric atrophy and precancerous gastric lesions (gastric atrophy and/or intestinal metaplasia), compared with GSTO1*C reference carriers (OR = 2.49, 95%CI = 1.04–5.96, p = 0.04 and OR = 2.98, 95%CI = 1.21–7.34, p = 0.018, respectively), as shown in Figure 2a. Here, GSTO1 is linked to chronic atrophic gastritis.
