We also examined the serum levels of LBP in the context of hospital-acquired infections and found that in patients who did not develop an infection (n = 116) during hospitalization (median [IQR] serum level of CRP during hospitalization: 5.7 [2–12]), LBP reached significantly higher levels in the unfavorable outcome group compared to those with favorable outcomes at both measurement time points (Figure 3A).
