Kidney injury molecule 1 (KIM-1) or TIM-1 is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein expressed in high amounts at the apical membrane of proximal convoluted tubule cells following renal injury of various causes (acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, acute/chronic graft rejection, nephrotoxic medication, ischemia of other etiologies) and also in lymphocytes and is involved in modulating immune responses [1]. The gene discussed is HAVCR1; the disease is chronic kidney disease.
