In an experiment on MCF-7 breast cancer cells, it was shown that the activation of LXR led to an increase in ABCG1 genes and transporter proteins, which enhanced cholesterol efflux into isolated high-density lipoproteins (HDLs) and led to a decrease in intracellular and membrane-bound cholesterol levels required for tumor cell growth. This evidence concerns the gene ABCG1 and breast carcinoma.
