In hitherto published case reports, allergy and sensitization to edible insect allergens have been assessed with the use of SPT, BAT, immunoblot, ELISA, as well as inhalational and oral provocation tests (as reviewed by de Gier & Verhoeckx [1]) Commercially available tests for serum-specific IgE assessment have been designed based on the use of whole insect extracts and not specific allergenic proteins. Here, IGHE is linked to allergic disease.
