In PTC, BRAF mutations are the most common molecular alteration, present in 36–69% of cases (Zolotov, 2016; Penna et al., 2017), and in anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) in 30–40%, suggesting that BRAF mutated PTCs can progress to less differentiated thyroid cancers (Hsiao & Nikiforov, 2014; Soares & Sobrinho-Simões, 2011). This evidence concerns the gene BRAF and thyroid cancer.
