GBA1 and Parkinson disease: As expected, given the central role of lysosomes in cellular health, LSDs have been linked to various human diseases, including Niemann-Pick type C1/2 (NPC1 and NPC2), Gaucher (GBA1), Pompe (GAA), Danon (LAMP2), and neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses (GRN), and increased risk of Parkinson’s disease is observed within a subset of LSDs (SMPD1, ASAH1, ATP13A2, CTSD, and GBA1) (4–8).
