SCD and Insulin resistance: Transferring these findings to pregnancy, it is interesting to speculate that higher SCD-1 activity in pregnant women with OWO (as suggested, e.g., by higher SCD-1 protein concentration [76]) may (1) promote insulin resistance and (2) impair the induction and maintenance of the tolerogenic environment needed for fetal accommodation [77] and may thus be related to, e.g., the observed higher rate of abortion in women with OWO.
